frame rate control (MVA) (FRC)

Displays have a certain color depth, which is limited by the technology used. With Frame Rate Control (FRC), there is a method with which displays with a low color resolution can display a higher color quality.

With TN technology, the color depth is usually 6 bits, i.e. 64 color levels per color. To improve this color resolution, the FRC method works with dithering and interpolates the colors of neighboring pixels to an intermediate color value. Procedurally, the display switches quickly between adjacent pixels.

The switching halves the frame rate, which can lead to flickering in dark parts of the image.
