gateway GPRS support node (GPRS) (GGSN)

The GatewayGPRS Support Node (GGSN) is part of the packet-oriented GPRS network architecture. It represents the G interface to the Internet or other mobile networks and provides all gateway functions required for handling data traffic.

Necessary functions include providing the interface to external IP networks, to their routers and RADIUS servers used for security purposes.

From the perspective of an external IP network, the GGSN acts as a router for IP addresses of all subscribers served by the GPRS network. For this purpose, the GGSN exchanges routing information with the external network.
