giga (G)

Giga (G) is the prefix for one billion. In decimal notation it is the nine- digit number 1,000,000,000, in exponential notation it is: 10exp9 or 10hoch9.

The prefix giga, like all other mathematical prefixes, is defined in the Système International ( SI) and is used in conjunction with the data rate as gigabits per second (Gbit/s), with the frequency as gigahertz ( GHz), with the computing power as GFLOPS or with the storage capacity as gigabytes ( GB).
