gigabit video interface (GVIF)

The GVIF interface(GigabitVideo Interface) developed by Sony is a serial digital interface for flat panel displays in which all signals are multiplexed onto a pair of lines.

The multiplexed signals are transmitted as differential signals. The interface is implemented in an LSI chip transmitter and receiver. Since the RGB signals, sync signals and the clock signal are included in this interface, the required data rate for displays in XGA format is 1.5 Gbit/s. The connection cable between the computer and the display can be up to 20 m long. It is a special twinaxial cable that is very thin and flexible. GVIF technology for displays is used in automotive technology in aircraft and buses, but also for connectingprojectors.
