gold (Au)

Gold (Au) is a precious metal with atomic number 79 in the periodic table of elements. It is characterized by corrosion resistance, good electrical conductivity and a high resistivity of 0.023 `rho`.

The electrical conductivity of `45 *10^6` S/m is higher than that of copper. Because of these outstanding properties and good thermal conductivity, gold is mainly used in connector pins, at contacting points, for example in smart cards, in bonding and in connecting wires of chips, in speaker plugs or in Kelvin terminals.
