Grayware is used as a generic term for malware such as spyware, adware, dialers or similar malicious software.

Grayware itself does not aim to directly affect the computer or its functionality. Rather, grayware is used to collect data about user behavior. This data is of particular interest to online advertisers and is therefore marketed accordingly. The online advertiser can use the collected user data specifically for online advertising.
