halftone method

Halftones are the color values that lie between achromatic white and a fully saturated hue.

Various halftone processes have been developed so that printers can display continuous color gradients. All of them use the limited resolution of the human eye for closely spaced brightness or color dots.

In the halftone process, the individual pixels are printed in different sizes, with the pixels of the different primary colorscyan, magenta and yellow, overlapping each other to a certain extent. Since controlling the pixel size in inkjet prin ters is very complex, color printers tend to use dithering, which works with a halftone technique, or diffusion for continuous color transitions.
