handheld PC (HPC)
Handhelds are small, handheld computers that have organizer functions, such as address management, appointment calendar, notebook, etc., and enable communication via a cell phone modem.
In addition to the organizer functions, these mobile devices also have PC functions such as office programs. The only difference between them and PDAs is the keyboard. While PDAs work almost exclusively with pen input on the touch-sensitive touchscreen, handhelds have a small keyboard, a numeric keypad or a touch-sensitive LCD display.
Handhelds are increasingly being replaced by powerful tablets and smartphones, whose range of functions is comparable to that of modern personal computers. Classic handhelds are used in administrative and operational areas, such as warehouse management or the monitoring and control of telecontrol equipment.
Operating systems of handhelds are EPOC or Symbian, PalmOS, webOS, Android and Windows CE.
