hard copy

A hardcopy is a permanent reproduction of a representation on another, directly usable medium; for example on paper.

A hardcopy can be a screenshot of the current representation on a screen, lists, graphics, photos, tables, faxes or texts printed on paper. Compact discs, magnetic tapes, flash memories and other optical, magnetic or semiconductor based media do not belong to the media for the representation of hardcopies.

A hardcopy can be executed via the key "Print" on the keyboard. Under Windows a screenshot is generated when printing the screen content, which is stored in the clipboard. From there it can be retrieved and edited for the most different application programs.
