health device profile (Bluetooth) (HDP)

The BluetoothHealth Device Profile(HDP) is a Bluetooth profile that ensures the interoperability of different medical devices. With this Bluetooth profile, data from medical measuring devices for blood pressure, body temperature, weight, electrocardiogram, pulse or blood sugar can be transferred to portable devices, to smartphones, tablet PCs, laptops or medical monitors.

The DHP profile was developed by the Bluetooth Medical Device Profile Study Group (MED) as a transport protocol for the IEEE11073 standardized data exchange protocol, Personal Health Data( PHD). The combination of these standardized protocols, which is propagated by the Continua Health Alliance, creates the conditions for the exchange of medical data between devices from different manufacturers. For transmission, Bluetooth uses Bluetooth High Speed( BHS), developed in version 3.0.

The Health Device Profile (HDP) is based on the Service Discovery Protocol( SDP) and Multichannel Adaptation Protocol( MCAP) and adopts the Personal Health Data (PHD) for data exchange.
