high channel (hearing aid) (HC)

Among hearing aids, there are dual-channel devices that frequency-separate the microphone signal and route it through a low-frequency channel, the Low Channel( LC), and a high-frequency channel, the High Channel (HC).

Hearing aid with dual frequency separation

Hearing aid with dual frequency separation

The low frequency range for the Low Channel extends from the lower cutoff frequency up to 1.5 kHz. This is where the frequency range of the high frequency channel begins, ending at about 8 kHz.

Since the gain of both channels can be adjusted independently of each other, this frequency division allows for better acoustic adaptation to the user's hearing sensation. After signal separation, the signals of both channels are summed again. The gain of the entire frequency range can be varied via a further common gain setting.
