high density fiber optics (HDFO)

High Density Fiber Optics (HDFO) is a cabling technology that significantly reduces the space required for fiber optic cabling. Due to the reduced space requirement, HDFO cabling can be set up in a much more compact way than classic fiber optic cabling.

HDFO cabling relies on multi-fiber connectors such as the MPO connector or the MTRJ connector. With the MPO connector, 12 or 24 single- mode fibers can be accommodated in a connector area measuring only a few millimeters. Twelve MPO connectors can thus be used to connect 144 to 288 optical fib ers. In contrast, plug-in modules for fiber optic distributors have only 24 or 48 FO connectors on one height unit(U).
