home node B (femtocell) (HNB)

In the Third Generation Partnership Project( 3GPP), femtocells, which are radio cells with an extremely short range, are referred to as Home NodeB (HNB).

InUMTS networks, the Node B is a central base station that forwards data to the higher- level Radio Network Controller( RNC). With reference to femtocells used in halls, houses and halls, the term Home NodeB is used in this context because it performs various functions of the NodeB and is optimized for use in houses.

In the HNB access network, in addition to the femtocell or the Home NodeB, there is also the Security Gateway (SeGW) and the Home NodeB Gateway( HNB-GW), which is connected to the Home NodeB via an Iu interface (Iuh). The Home NodeB is connected to a broadband transmission network. In Long Term Evolution( LTE), the femtocell is called Home eNodeB( HeNB).
