hue, lightness, saturation (HLS)

The HSL color model is a color model based on human color perception. It essentially corresponds to the HSV color model, with lightness replacing brightness, which forms the vertical axis in the color model.

The HSL color model consists of a hexagonal double pyramid, whose center is the gray value and the pyramid peaks form white and black, respectively. The shades have the same angles as in the HSV color model.

The HSL color model is based on the fact that you can determine the color saturation of a pure hue by adding white and that you can reduce the brightness value by adding black. The HSL color model is suitable for color blending in software for artistic image creation.
