hyperchannel

The hyperchannel network of Network Systems Corporation implements a CSMA method, Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA), with priority control. The network was primarily developed for short-haul operation with the highest data rates. This is also reflected in the high Maximum Transmission Unit( MTU), which is 65,535.

Conflicts following transmissions are avoided by ensuring that all users, including those not involved in contention, maintain different (fixed) delay times in pairs until the next transmission begins.

Hyperchannel has a maximum data rate of 50 Mbit/s. At low system load, almost collision-free transmission with very low system times is ensured; at high system load (congestion), almost the maximum system throughput, which is 95%, is achieved. This is because as the congestion increases, the probability that a station will be able to utilize its priority signal increases. This results in the stations with low priority being severely disadvantaged.
