Inbound links are links from an external website to your own website or web page. If an external website A links to your own website B, this is an inbound link. The reverse link from your own website B to the external website A is an outbound link.
Inbound links, also known as backlinks, are of particular interest for search engine optimization, as they are included in Google 's PageRank or Yahoo's WebRank. It is the quantity of inbound links, but more crucial is their quality, which is expressed by the ranking of the website from which the external links were set. The higher the PageRank of the corresponding web pages, the higher the link popularity and thus the ranking of the web page on which the inbound links arrive. The inbound link also benefits from the link text.
Inbound links are also used as paid text links or sponsored links for SEO procedures. At Google, the search querylink:domainname can be used to determine the number of inbound links that come from other websites.
