information and communications technology (ICT)

The term information and communications technology is used on the one hand as a generic term for a classic IT technology, and on the other hand for a service and the related building and home cabling.

The combination of information and communication technology

As a generic term, information and communications technology characterizes the development of both technologies, whose innovative spirit has continued unabated for decades. As the two technologies grow ever closer together, the individual techniques take a back seat to the holistic view. The processing of content, as provided by information technology, and the transmission of messages, as performed by communications technology, are directly linked, which is expressed in the term information and communications technology ( ICT).

The convergence of the two technologies can be seen in the communication of information-processing processes. Only the interconnection creates the ideal conditions for the communication of information. Such a network can be computer-based, in which case it is referred to as a computer network, or it can be load-, performance- or function-oriented, such as the load network, the performance network or the function network.

Home wiring as an example of ICT technology

As a service, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) with its voice and data communications is inextricably linked to building and home cabling, this is documented in the EN 50173-4 and ISO/IEC15018 standards.

Cabling for ICT technology and also BCT technology, Broadcast and Communications Technology, in the home conceptually consists of two subsystems; Primary Home Cabling with the Primary Residential Distributor (PWV), and Secondary Home Cabling with the Secondary Residential Distributor (SWV). The end point of ICT cabling is the information technology connection with the local loop( TA). Communication takes place via TP cables, polymer fibers or optical fibers with a bandwidth of 100 MHz. This means that TP cables in the 5 MHz to 100 MHz, 6 MHz to 250 MHz and 7 MHz to 600 MHz categories can be used. This corresponds to link classes D, E and F of the ISO/ IEC 11801 cabling standard. The bridgeable distance can be 100 m. The outlet boxes are equipped with RJ45 so ckets, but can also have the Tera connector.
