An information appliance is a device with which information can be accessed and processed.

Such an appliance should have the power of a personal computer and the ease of use of consumer appliances. It should be as easy to use as a television or stereo, a refrigerator or a washing machine.

Like other appliances, an information appliance has limited features and a simple interface focused solely on receiving and processing information. Such an appliance could well be implemented as a mobile, handy personal digital assistant( PDA).
