integrated access device (NGN) (IAD)

An Integrated Access Device (IAD) is a connection device that simultaneously supports various communication services such as telephony over the long-distance network, Voice over IP( VoIP) and data services from local networks.

An IAD unit aggregates multiple channels ofvoice and data over a single connection to the network operator. Typically, Integrated Access Devices are deployed over 2 Mbps lines for DSL and simultaneously implement many telephone connections. It provides interfaces to ISDN, the classic long-distance telephone network POTS and Ethernet and can also include the DSL network termination as a terminal connection.

In Next Generation Networks( NGN), an IAD unit provides the subscriber interface for business customers to transmit data, video, audio and other services.
