integrated mobile broadband system (IBMS)

The concept of the integrated broadband mobile communications system. Integrated Mobile Broadband System (IBMS), is intended to support the broad spectrum of services in the connection area with different transmission rates and quality of service requirements, in contrast to previous solution approaches.

The IBMS can be used both in-house and outdoors and offers the user the possibility to switch from one environment to another while the connection is established. Communication between the different subsystems is done over WLL networks. The subsystems have air interfaces and protocols adapted to the WLL. The establishment of the radio link and its maintenance is done through the Network Access and Connectivity Channel( NACCH).

IMBS integrates various services, which are divided into three different network service classes (NSC) and defined by QoS parameters. The classes are labeled NSC-A, -B, and -C, where A represents the highest mobility with low transmission rate, for example for mobile telephony. NSC-B represents moderate mobility and a data rate of up to 2 Mbit/s, and NSC-C represents low mobility and a high data rate of up to 34 Mbit/s. Class C is used, for example, to transfer multimedia applications to a laptop. The basis for IMBS is to be ATM, and interfaces toIP networks are also planned.
