integrated product policy

Integrated product policy is synonymous with the environmentally sound development of processes and products. It is a concept launched by the European Union to reduce the negative environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle. This applies equally to the extraction of raw materials, recycling, waste disposal and the reuse of materials. Directives already implemented under the IPP strategy include the WEEE Directive for improved recycling of waste equipment and the RoHS Directive for the use of materials with fewer harmful substances. Other directives that will come into force after 2007 include the EuP Directive for eco-design of energy-using products and the REACH Directive, which aims to improve chemical control.
