interferometry
Interferometry is a science that deals with the interference of waves and their measurement. Of light waves, electromagnetic waves and sound waves.
The interference of waves produces various spatial, time and frequency distribution patterns from which physical parameters can be derived. For example, interferometers can be used to measure refractive indices of optical fibers, magnetic field strengths of electromagnetic waves, reflection points in transmission media, temperatures, pressures or strains.
