intermediate distribution frame (wiring) (IDF)

Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) is a subordinate distributor of a cabling, for example a floor distributor( EV). It forms an intermediate distribution frame of the building cabling and can contain hubs, routers and patch panels.

From an intermediate distribution point, the subscriber lines or the floor lines go directly to the subscriber lines( TA). At such an intermediate point, subscriber lines can be cross-connected to individual service lines. In addition, an intermediate distribution frame can serve as a distribution point for cables coming from the main distribution frame or the building distribution frame.

An IDF frame housed in a distribution room maycontain distribution switches, routers, power supplies, batteries, and UPS systems in addition to the patch panel.
