internationalized domain name (i-DNS) (IDN)

The Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) differs from other domain names by the extended range of letters and characters.

The IDN name can consist of the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet, as well as digits and characters from the ASCII character set, and an additional 92 characters. Thus, the IDN name can include umlauts and characters from other languages - Swedish, French, Chinese, Indian, Arabic, etc. - etc. In order for the IDN names to be used in the Domain Name System( DNS), they are translated into known combinations of letters and characters by the client, which can be an IDN-enabled web browser.
