intrusion detection message exchange protocol (security) (IDMEP)

Intrusion Detection Message Exchange Protocol (IDMEP) is a security protocol developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) to warn of intrusions into IP networks.

The IDMEP protocol can significantly help improve network behavior in the event of an attack. It detects attacks carried out from one domain to another.

When a source domain detects an attack, it can identify the target network for that attack. It sends an alert indicating the nature of the attack, which is automatically broadcast across the entire network. It also sends a reference such as the Internet address( URL) or a system file that contains more information for the network administrator. The IDMEP protocol can be based on the SNMP protocol version 3.
