lightning protection potential equalization (LPPE)

Lightning Protection Potential Equalization(BPA), Lightning Protection Potential Equalization (LPPE), is an internal lightning protection which serves to protect persons and equipment in rooms and buildings.

Lightning protection potential equalization is used to discharge the lightning current into the low-voltage network without voltage flashover and to equalize the potential of the low-voltage distribution. All systems and equipment in the building have a higher potential for the duration of the lightning current.

Equipotential bonding is achieved by connecting the conductive installations of a building to the external lightning protection system via equipotential bonding conductors. All conductive installations, racks and systems, but also those for gas, water and heating, which are located inside a building, are connected together to the lightning protection system via equipotential bonding conductors.
