local injection and detection (fiber optics) (LID)

Local Injection and Detection (LID) is a subtle method of aligning two optical fib ers to be spliced in such a way that attenuation is minimized. For this purpose, light is injected into one fiber according to the principle of the bending coupler and extracted from the other fiber according to the same principle.
