master file table (NTFS) (MFT)
In the NTFS file system, New Technology File System, the writing and reading of files on the hard disk is organized with a master file, the Master File Table ( MFT).
The MTF file contains information on which position of a sector certain information is stored. When new files are saved, the location is entered in the MFT file.
Master File Table is a central file index in the file system of Windows NT ff. In the MFT procedure all records have a length of 1 kilobyte( KB). The first parts of the file structure contain metadata for the organization of the file system, for the allocation and for marked directories.
