matrix

The term matrix occurs equally in mathematics, data science, graphical representation, storage and switching technology.

  1. In mathematics, a matrix is a two-dimensional arrangement of numbers, listed in any number of columns and rows. The numbers are uniquely identified by specifying the row and column.
  2. In computer graphics, displays and printers, a matrix contains pixels or dots from which, divided into rows and columns, the display or printed image is created. The pattern of the pixels is determined by the position and assignment of the individual elements. In this context, reference should be made to the matrix printer.
  3. In the switching and audio technology it is about the distribution of the signals. In this case, the matrix is formed by a number of input and output lines, which can be connected to each other in the crossing points. Switching matrices are realized in crossbar distributors.
