maximum burst size (ATM) (MBS)

The Maximum Burst Size (MBS) is a parameter in ATM networks. It, the burst size, is specified as the maximum number of ATM cells that can be transmitted at a limited peak cell rate( PCR).

In ATM signaling, Burst Tolerance( BT) is conveyed by Maximum Burst Size (MBS), which is specified as the number of cells. The Burst Tolerance together with the Sustainable Cell Rate( SCR) and the Generic Cell Rate Algorithm( GCRA) determines the allowed Maximum Burst Size, which is in accordance with the GCRA.
