maximum power point tracking (photovoltaics) (MPPT)
Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is an optimization method used in photovoltaic systems and solar modules that ensures that the operating point of the solar modules is shifted so that they always achieve the highest feed-in power.
Inphotovoltaics, the energy generated depends on the solar radiation. As the solar irradiance changes, so does the operating point at which the solar cell generates the most energy. The Maximum Power Point( MPP), which is the optimal operating point, shifts, which has a direct impact on the efficiency of the feed-in. With maximum power point tracking, the MPP point is constantly tracked by the inverter or grid-feeding device, resulting in an improvement in feed-in efficiency. The better the MPPT algorithm, the higher the feed-in efficiency.
MPP tracking is a function of Module Level Power Management (MPLM) implemented in the connected micro-inverters or inverters.
