measurement reading

In electronic measurement technology, there are various types of data display for the representation of measured values. These include analog, digital, alphanumeric and graphical display of measured values.

The analog measured value display is made by pointers on a scale display and is mainly used in moving coil instruments and moving iron instruments. Advantages of the analog display are the good clarity and the possibility to follow trends and compare values. They are also suitable for simultaneous monitoring of measured variables. Disadvantage is the inaccurate reading (reading error).

Digital displays show the numerical value and the unit, which is the more direct method compared to the analog display, because it corresponds to the notation of the measurand. In particular, the display is made by light emitting diodes( LED), display modules, LCD displays, Electro Luminescence Display( ELD), electron beam tubes, plasma displays, lamp displays for large displays.

The advantages of digital display of measured values are mainly the good readability and the high accuracy. The high input resistance puts only a small load on the measurement source. Since the measurement data is available in digital form, data can be stored and output for further processing.

Alphanumeric displays present data in alphanumeric form. Optoelectronic displays and display modules are used here.

The graphical representation of measured values and dependencies of measured variables to each other is done e.g. via Lissajous figures on oscilloscopes, YT recorders or XY recorders, characteristic curve recorders.
