media interface connector (MIC)

The MIC connector is a codable duplex connector with snap locking for single mode fibers and multimode fibers. The MIC connector(Media Interface Connector) has a snap- lock and is used in FDDI, but also in ATM, in the Transparent Asynchronous Transmitter/Receiver Interface( TAXI).

Since the ANSI standard X3.166 was adopted by the International Standards Organization( ISO), the connector has also been standardized internationally under ISO 9314-3. The typical insertion loss of the MIC connector is about 0.5 dB. The diameter of the two ferrules is 2.5 mm. In addition to the connection to FDDI and ATM components, the FDDI MIC connector is also offered in the connection technology as a data socket in the building.

The connector is connected to the fiber by a ferrule made of zirconia. The housing of the MIC connector is made of plastic. A slip-on protective cap protects the ferrule from contamination.
