media management system (MMS)

The Media Management System(MMS) is an IEEE standardized architecture of a distributed, platform-independent system for the management of media, of diskettes and magnetic tapes.

This standard 1244.1 describes the general scheme for the management of the media, the software components and the data model to be supported by this software.

The feature set required for the Media Management System (MMS) implementation includes the Session Security, Authentication, Initialization Protocol( SSAIP) and the Media Management Protocol( MMP). Most implementations also have the Drive Management Protocol( DMP) and the Library Management Protocol( LMP).
