medium scale integration (IC) (MSI)
Medium Scale Integration (MSI) is a specification for the integration density of integrated circuits( IC).
Chips in MSI technology are monolithic, they have between one hundred (`10^2`) and one thousand (`10^3`) transistors per chip. MSI technology was developed in the 1960s and enabled combined analog- digital circuits.
In addition, MSI technology included adders, decoders, counters, flip-flops and multiplexers. The next higher integration density is Large Scale Integration( LSI).
