mesh deterministic access (802.11s) (MDA)

Since the Enhanced Distributed Channel Access(EDCA) access method leads to performance limitations in mesh networks with many neighboring mesh access points ( MAP), an alternative access method, Mesh Deterministic Access ( MDA), was addressed in the 802.11s standard.

In order to efficiently utilize the available radio resources between the mesh access points in the radio cells, Mesh Deterministic Access is based on a predictive allocation of the radio channels.

For this purpose, MDA transmits time slots of equal length, with the MDA-enabled mesh access points agreeing on their occupancy of each individual time slot. The allocation is broadcast on a regular basis. Since the use of the time slots is fixed, no collisions can occur, and stochastic access becomes deterministic.
