message transfer service (MHS) (MTS)

A Message Transfer Service (MTS) is an application-neutral service of a Message Handling System( MHS) for message exchange, which operates on the basis of buffering and forwarding using the store-and-forward method.

The Message Transfer System transmits messages from a sender UA (User Agent) to a receiver UA. In particular, the MTS provides the prerequisite for message transfer between different Administration Management Domains( ADMD) and Private Management Domains( PRMD). It supports application-defined communication services such as the IPM service, Interpersonal Messaging (IPM).
