Meter Data Management (MDM) is the central data management in smart grids that monitors and manages the consumption values of the smart meters. It is the link between process data processing and company-wide information processing and provides both sides with corresponding functions.

Meter Data Management processes the consumption data of AMI systems(Advanced Metering Infrastructure), into which the analysis values of individual consumption points flow, as well as those of other market participants, third-party users and metering service providers.

The Meter Data Management System( MDMS) can be seen as a calculation automat that makes its results available to other applications via communication networks. For example, for the processing of forecast data or billing preparation based on the electronically recorded consumption values.
