The Microdrive has a 1" hard disk that spins at a speed of 3,600 rpm. This drive is available with storage capacities ranging from several hundred megabytes( MB) to 20 gigabytes( GB). The data rates are 10 MB/s for the read speed and 5 MB/s for the write speed.

Microdrives are used as memory expansion in laptops, notebooks and handhelds. They work like a hard disk with a rotating disk and are therefore more susceptible to shock loads. The supply voltage is 3.3 and 5 V.
