micro inverter

Inphotovoltaics, the DC voltage generated by the solar modules must be converted into an AC voltage for the low-voltage grid. Generally, for such DC-to-AC conversions, inverters are used that generate a frequency-accurate and phase- synchronous 220 V AC voltage. In English literature, these central inverters are called central inverters. They convert the entire DC voltage of a photovoltaic system into a phase-synchronous AC voltage.

An alternative to central conversion with inverters are micro-inverters. The micro- inverter concept offers a decentralized, distributed approach. It is much more flexible than that of centralized inverters because each solar module has its own micro-inverter. This converts the DC voltage into AC voltage, ensures frequency accuracy and phase synchronization with the grid voltage, and regulates the operating point of the respective solar module.

Maximum Power Point Tracking( MPPT) is a function of Module Level Power Management( MLPM) that significantly increases the efficiency of the feed-in. The operating point optimization of each solar module is important in that each solar module may have different irradiation conditions.

The micro-inverter concept is more flexible than the classical concept with central inverter, it reduces the impact of debris and dirt on the solar modules and provides higher feed-in efficiency. Since the micro-inverters are mounted below the PV modules, they must meet the protection classes( IP) against splash water and jet water.
