micro optical electromechanical mirror system (MOEMS)

Micro Optical Electromechanical Mirror System (MOEMS) is an array of tiny micromirrors switched with electric fields.

Optical micromirrors are tiny micromechanical devices that can be tilted and rotated to deflect highly focused beams of light. Such micromirrors are used as switching components in optical networks, where they are called MOEMS, and switch the infrared beams from an incoming optical waveguide to an outgoing one.

Projectors are another field of application. For this field of application, there is a chip with tilting micromirrors, the Digital Micromirror Devices( DMD), which is used in DLP (Digital Light Processing) projectors. Other applications include micromirrors for microscanners, for example for portable barcode readers or for spectroscopy.
