mini SATA (mSATA)

Solid State Drives(SSD) on SATA modules have form factors of 3.5" and 2.5", which were unsuitable for notebooks. That's why Samsung and the JEDEC specified a smaller plug-in card format of 1.8" and 1" with the mini-SATA card (mSATA), which meets the smaller space requirements.

Mini-SATA physically works like Mini- PCI-Express with the data rates of the different revisions, which are 1.5 Gbit/s, 3.0 Gbit/s and 6.0 Gbit/s.
