mobile data terminal (MDT)

Mobile data terminals, Mobile Data Terminal(MDT), are dedicated terminals for special mobile radio networks or services. They are used in the BOS radio, in Tetra and Tetrapol, where they take over the communication in military vehicles, fire departments and police cars, in cars of the disaster control and rescue services as mobile data terminals and display the location data.

Mobile data terminals have a display and a keyboard to enter data, and are connected to various peripheral devices such as a navigation device, automatic vehicle locator or taximeter. While the first MDT devices were dumb terminals, current MDTs are equipped with processors. Therefore, they are usually also referred to as Mobile Data Computers( MDC).
