multipoint connection
A multipoint connection is a type of connection where one of the user network interfaces has a distribution function. It is the simultaneous connection with more than two user interfaces or interfaces to a central facility in the network.
For example, when multiple data stations are connected to a data processing facility via a node facility over the same line, this is a multipoint connection. This type of connection is referred to in the TKO as a node connection. The multipoint connection may be fixed or switched. The counterpart of the multipoint connection is the point-to-point( P2P) connection. In the point-to-multipoint connection( P2MP), the transmission is multicast: one to a group.
