A nanosite, also called a nanosite banner, is a smaller version of a microsite that cannot be opened in its own browser window, but is part of an open website.

Such nanosites are fully functional. The advantage of nanosites is that the Internet user does not have to leave the provider's site. This reduces abandonment rates when users make purchases.

For example, once a website visitor has decided to purchase a product, a corresponding nanosite can be opened in the same web window. This open nanosite offers, for example, a complete online store through which the buyer can complete the entire purchase of the product.
