network management layer (FCAPS) (NML)

The Network Management Layer (NML) is a logical layer of Fault, Configuration, Account, Performance, and Security( FCAPS) in Telecommunications Control Networks( TMN) on which network management is performed.

The NML layer provides a holistic view of the network and between the various devices. Traffic engineering, control of available service capacities, diversities and possible network congestion is performed at this layer. In addition, reports and traffic analyses are generated. The Network Management Layer gets its data from the underlying Element Management Layer( EML).
