non-HT short training field (802.11a/g) (L-STF)

Non-HT Short Training Field (L-STF) is a training field in the frame of the Null Data Packet( NDP) announcement of 802.11a, which work with OFDM technology. It consists of 12 OFDM symbols with which the receiver recognizes whether the 802.11 frame is just starting, it synchronizes timers or selects antennas.

The Non- HAT refers to versions that do not support High Throughput (HT). Any other 802.11 device that supports OFDM can decode this data field.

The Short Training data field includes two symbols and is carried in the 802.11ac header to ensure backward compatibility with earlier 802.11 versions. In 802.11ac, the L-STF data field is duplicated for each of the 20 MHz subbands, and in some subbands, to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio, the carrier frequency is rotated 90° and 180°.
