normal link pulse (Ethernet) (NLP)

The Normal Link Pulse(NLP) is a detection pulse that is sent to 10Base-T in Ethernet.

The NLP pulse is used for autonegotiation and is sent between the 10Base-T stations and the 100Base-T stations so that they can determine whether the other station is operating at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps. The Normal Link Pulse (NLP) is a positive pulse with a duration of 100 ns. It is sent at a time interval of 16.8 +/- 8 ms, and is sent when there is no traffic on the network.

If the receiving station detects the NLP pulse, then the LIT signal, Link Integrity Test (LIT) transmits.
