optical network element (ONE)

In the Optical Transport Hierarchy ( OTH), there are various optical network elements such as optical multiplexers ( OMUX), optical amplifiers ( OA), optical add/drop multiplexers ( OADM) for inserting and removing transmission channels, and some other components.

The functions of these individual components are combined in the optical network components, the Optical Network Elements (ONE), which are connected at both ends of an optical transmission link.
