Part 1of the Orange Book specification describes the CD-MO disc. Data can be written, erased, and rewritten to a CD-MO. CD-MO are incompatible with CD-R discs. Orange Book Part 2 describes the standard for the CD-R. The CD-R can only be written to once and cannot be erased.
  2. The security specifications specified in the Orange Book are about the Trusted Computer Security Evaluation Criteria, which were developed in the 1980s by the National Computer Security Center (NCSC) on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense. These Orange Book specifications are about confidentiality protection and certification, which are addressed in this document in several stages. The procedures described in the Orange Book were superseded at the beginning of the new century by the Information Technology Security Evaluation Criteria( ITSEC) and the Common Criteria( CC).
